Final Assignment: Monogram

#1 Monogram Confusion

Finally, our last 2D assignments. This assignment is about making our own personal monogram and then transferring them to 5 objects that reflects our personality. The things that we use can be anything, from daily objects to handcrafted DIY objects, as long as it reflects your personality.

But first, we are required to design our own monogram. The first part of this assignment is to explore different designs for our monogram. These are my exploration for my personal monogram:

#2 Monogram Development

After exploring a few pages of designs for my monogram. I decided to choose 1 of the many monograms that I did. The one I chose is my initial, which is 'JJ'. I decided to choose that as my monogram design and keep on designing. Here are the results of my further logo development:

After much consideration, I decided to go with the original logo design:

In my opinion, the reason I chose this is because of the simple yet elegant design of my 'JJ' initial.

#3 Design Transfer (Objects)

Now, for the last part of the assignment. We are required to transfer our selected monogram design and transfer it to 5 objects that reflects your personality. Here are the 5 objects that I chose:

Item #2: A Soccer Ball:

I made this soccer ball with a styrofoam. I painted the styrofoam with the colour black so that it represents a soccer ball. The reason I made this is because I'm seriously passionate about football. For the transfer method, I used sparkling powder to form my monogram design on the surface of a paper bag that I use to carry the soccer ball.

Item #4: A Novel:

My second last object is a novel. The novel is a biography about Sir Alex Ferguson and this is one of my favourite novel from my book shelf. For my logo transferring method, I punched a hole at the back cover of the book and attached a cork chain that comes with my monogram.

Item #1: A motivational quote frame:

This is a motivational quote frame that has been around in my house for 10 years now. The reason I chose this is because the quote on it 'They think because they think can' really motivates me every time I look at it. For the transfer method, I used a candle and drip the shape of my monogram out.

Item #3: Stamp Album:

The third object that I chose is my stamp album. My dad gave me this stamp album when I was around 6 years old and I find this very meaningful. Throughout the years, I collected many stamps from around the world. For the monogram transferring method, I printed out my logo and pasted at the back of my stamp album.

Item #5: Memories Box:

My last object is a box that contains some of my memories throughout my life. I made the wooden box myself and transferred my logo by spraying my monogram patterns onto it. The wooden box contains some letters from my friends, some sea shells, old bank notes and some stamps.
